Sun Apr 06 - League Match 14

Wellington - 1
Ledbury Swifts - 10
(Quinn 3, Bubb-Sacklyn 4, Topham, Clayton, Bodger (pen))
Swifts travelled to bottom side Wellington on Sunday in search of a quick league double and as the score line suggests, they had no trouble achieving it. Once again Swifts created good chances early on but nobody could find the back of the net with Swifts having being grateful to their keeper who pulled off two good saves to deny Wellington taking the lead. Midway through the half, Swifts at last found their shooting boots when Quinn opened the scoring. Then from a corner, Bubb-Sacklyn headed home and Quinn then completed his hat trick with 2 neat finishes to put Swifts 4-2 up at half time. The second half was very one-sided as Swifts scored at regular intervals. Bubb-Sacklyn soon completed his hat trick, Topham, Clayton and then a Chris Bodger penalty made the score 9-0. Then from a late corner, Bubb-Sacklyn grabbed his fourth and Swifts tenth. Then with the last kick of the game, Wellington got a consolation goal to make the final score 10-1.

Wed Apr 02 - League Match 13
Ledbury Swifts - 2
(Savidge, Bubb-Sacklyn)
Credenhill - 5
Swifts midweek fixture against high riding Credenhill proved to be a game of missed opportunities for the Swifts and they were made to pay as they slipped to a very unfortunate defeat. Swifts began the game well and should have taken the lead when Quinn wanted more time to get his shot away and the chance had gone. Credenhill were dangerous on the break and were unlucky with a couple of snap shots. Swifts approach play was excellent and chances fell to Lammas, Bubb-Sacklyn and Edwards who all failed to work the keeper. On twenty minutes, Swifts at last got the goal they deserved when Crichard’s long throw was flicked on for Savidge to slot home. In the final 10 minutes of the half, Swifts were punished for two mistakes which gave Credenhill and 2-1 half time lead. In the second half, Swifts continued to be the better side and levelled the scores when Bubb-Sacklyn picked up the ball twenty five yards out and hit a great shot into the top corner. Once again Swifts were made to pay for defensive lapses as Credenhill scored three goals in the last fifteen minutes to finish with a 5-2 win.

Sun Mar 23 - League Match 12

Ledbury Swifts - 5
(Perry (pen), Edwards 2, Clayton, Lammas)
Wellington - 1
Swifts recorded a rare victory when they entertained bottom side Wellington at the Ross Road; Swifts improving current form continued in this game when in difficult conditions they played some good possession football. On ten minutes they took the lead when a late challenge from the Wellington keeper on Olly Lammas led to a penalty which Luke Perry calmly converted. Swifts continued to play good football despite some rather unsavoury challenges from the Wellington players. They took a 2-0 lead when Alex Edwards shot was deflected past the keeper. It was soon 3-0 when in a goalmouth scramble, Richard Clayton saw his effort again diverted past the keeper by the defender. Alex Edwards then got his second and Swifts’ fourth when he had time and space to find the far corner. The wind and hail storms caused problems for Swifts in the second half but they managed to score the goal of the game when Olly Lammas latched onto a through ball and neatly lobed the keeper to make it 5-0. Midway through the half, Wellington was awarded a penalty for a very harsh hand ball decision with the player easily scoring. The rest of the game became an ill tempered affair but Swifts held out to record an easy win.

Sun Mar 16 - League Match 11

Bartestree - 2
Ledbury Swifts - 2
(Bubb-Sacklyn 2)
After a very entertaining encounter, they came away with a deserved draw. Bartestree had the better of the early play, and Swifts rode their luck when poor finishing and a couple of good saves prevented Bartestree taking an early lead. In Swifts first meaningful attack, they won a corner and Quinn’s delivery was forced over the line by Jamie Bubb-Sacklyn, to give Swifts the lead. Both sides were now playing some good attacking football and Swifts continued to be fortunate when Bartestree failed to convert their chances. However, in the last minute of the half, Swifts luck ran out when a break down to the right led to a cross being converted by the striker to make it 1-1 at the break. After only five minutes of the second half, Bartestree took the lead when a through ball beat the Swifts defence and the striker placed it neatly in the corner. This goal spurred Swifts into action as they pushed Bartestree back in search of an equaliser. Bubb-Sacklyn went close with a snapshot, Joel Henry just fired wide and Sam Crichard’s free kick just cleared the bar. But Swifts efforts were rewarded when Bartestree failed to clear their lines and Bubb-Sacklyn pounced to slam the ball home. The final fifteen minutes swayed to and fro but nobody could get a winner and a draw was a fair result. There were good performances from Adam Davis, Joe Markirwicz in defence and midfield.

Sun Mar 09 - Russell Jenkins Memorial Cup Round 2

Credenhill - 7
Ledbury Swifts - 2
(Smith, Bubb-Sacklyn)
Though Swifts lost this semi-final they produced a superb second-half performance and with a bit more luck with their finishing, the result could have been a lot different. As it turned out, Credenhill progressed to the final with a rather flattering score line. With only eleven players, Swifts knew they would be in for a hard afternoon. After a couple of early scares, Credenhill took the lead on ten minutes when the strikers’ shot slipped through Perry’s hands and into the net. Swifts pressed forward and from Quinn corner, James Smith powered home a header to make it 1-1. Credenhill’s speedy attack was causing problems and on twenty minutes a cross into the box was unlucky but put into his own net by Joe Markiewicz. It was soon 3-1 when once again the striker burst through to give Perry no chance. Swifts endeavoured to get back into the game without much luck, and they were dealt another blow right on half time when Credenhill went 4-1 up. The second half was a completely different story. With nothing to lose Swifts went at Credenhill from the start and with Topham, Crichard and Savidge dominating midfield, chances were being made. Firstly, Olly Lammas had a shot saved, Crichard fired over and Savidge shot wide. The pressure paid off when Bubb-Sacklyn was pushed in the box by the keeper. He got up to calmly place the ball in the corner to make it 4-2. Moments later, Bubb-Sacklyn hit the post, then Topham’s effort was saved on the line. Crichard was then unlucky when his shot hit the same post. He then broke through only to fire past the post. With Swifts players tiring from their efforts, Credenhill’s attacks became more frequent and in the last ten minutes they fired home three goals to record a flattering win.

Sun Mar 02 - League Match 10

Kington Town - 13
Ledbury Swifts - 0
This visit to Kington proved to be a complete nightmare for the Swifts, whatever could go wrong did. Firstly, Injuries and player availability meant that they had to travel with only 10 players; one of these arrived 15 minutes after the game had started. Swifts got off to the worst possible start when Kington forced a corner after only 30 seconds. From the corner the keeper punched the ball against a post making it rebound off the striker and into the net. Swifts were being torn to shreds and after only 8 minutes were 5-0 down. When Swifts’ last player arrived in changed the flow of the game and to Swifts’ credit they played some good possession football, with Kington finding it harder to break through. This they only managed to do once more to go in at half-time 6-0 up. Swifts had to play the whole of the second half with nine men, as Richard Clayton couldn’t continue due to a hamstring strain. As expected Kington scored at regular intervals to record a easy victory. But all credit to the Swifts players who never gave up, managing to test the keeper on several occasions.

Sun Feb 24 - Russell Jenkins Memorial Cup Round 1
Ledbury Swifts - 4
(Crichard 2, Savidge, Topham)
Kington Town Colts - 2
After last weeks disappointment of only a draw and Kington, Swifts made amends by booking their place in the next round of the Russell Jenkins Memorial Cup and an away trip to top of the table Credenhill. Swifts got off to a lively start with some good possession football, shots from Crichard, Savidge and Topham all going close. So it was no surprise Swifts took the lead on 10 minutes when Topham played a good ball through for Crichard and though his first shot was blocked, managed to beat the keeper with his second effort. Lammas then had a great chance to score but shot weakly at the keeper. Then on 20 minutes, Kington were awarded a free kick for a hand ball right on the edge of the box. The player then curled the ball round the wall and into the far corner to make it 1-1. Swifts then took control and after good work down the left between Smith and Savidge, led to Savidge hitting a great shot home form 25 yards to restore Swifts’ lead. More efforts from Topham and Crichard kept the Kington Keeper busy and Lammas again failed to hit the target when well placed. Swifts however did hit a third before halftime when from a Crichard free kick, Topham chested the ball down, then volleyed past the helpless keeper. Swifts continued to have the better of the play, but with excellent saves and poor finishing, Kington were kept in the game. Swifts were made to pay midway though the half when Kington reduced the rears and scored to make it 3-2. Swifts at last managed to make their pressure count when Crichard got his second to make it 4-2. Steady defending by Davies, Markiewicz and Clayton saw Swifts home.

Sun Feb 17 - League Match 9
Kington Town Colts - 3
Ledbury Swifts - 3
(Clayton, Davis, Quinn)
After last weeks poor showing against Lads Club, Swifts were unlucky not to come away with a win at Kington, when they equalised with the last kick of the game. After the heavy frost, the pitch was in very good condition, and both sides tried to play some passing football. With only 11 players and a few positional changes, Swifts adapted very well but after an even 15 minutes, Kington took the lead when a cross to the far post was latched onto by a striker who scored off the underside of the bar. Their lead was short lived when Swifts counter-attacked with a slick passing move which ended with Richard Clayton scoring. The rest of the half was fairly even until 2 minutes from half time, Kington resorted their lead. Once again, Swifts hit back straightaway when a speculative shot from Adam Davis somehow slipped through the keepers hands and into the net. The second half was much better for the Swifts as they controlled most of the play and were unlucky not to take the lead on more than one occasion. Swifts defence were holding firm in the rare Kington attacks. Swifts thought they had taken the lead when Luke Quinn latched onto a through ball and slotted home only for the linesman to raise his flag. But Swifts would not be denied and 15 minutes from time, Quinn was rewarded for his efforts when he once again latched onto a through ball and neatly beat the keeper to put Swifts 3-2 up. As expected Kington threw caution to the wind in search of an equaliser, but Swifts defence dealt well with the danger. But with Victory within their grasp, Swifts had to settle for a draw when in the fourth minute of stoppage time, a long throw wasn’t dealt with and the striker found the corner of the net to make it 3-3.

Sun Jan 06 - HFA Youth Cup Quarter-Final
Bartestree -3
Ledbury Swifts - 2
(Bubb-Sacklyn 2)
At the third time of asking this HFA Youth Cup quarter final got under way, and in a very entertaining contest Swifts can count themselves very unlucky no to be in the semi-finals. Both sides started the game with good attacking moves and both defences worked hard to keep the attackers out. But on 10 minutes, Bartestree took the lead when a through ball fell to the centre forward and although Perry in the Swifts goal saved the first shot, it rebounded to another player who side footed home. Swifts midfielders Quinn, Topham, Savidge and Crichard were combining well in creating chances for Bubb-Sacklyn and Lammas, whose efforts went just wide. Then on 20 minutes, Bartestree were awarded a penalty but Perry made a great save to deny the player. This was just the tonic Swifts needed as they took the game to Bartestree and from a corner by Quinn, Jamie Bubb-Sacklyn rose at the far post to head powerfully home. Swifts were now well on top and Bubb-Sacklyn was unlucky when his chip over the keeper went over the bar. Olly Lammas was even more unfortunate when his lob hit the inside of the post then was cleared. Swifts came out for the second half in a determined mood and Bartestree defenders were working overtime to keep the Swifts out. Topham had a great chance but lifted the ball over the bar. Bubb-Sacklyn also shot tamely when well placed. But their efforts were rewarded when from a corner Quinn’s cross eluded everyone but Bubb-Sacklyn at the far post, who had an easy tap in. Then within two minutes Bartestree were level when for the first time in the game Swifts defender failed to clear, and their striker fired home. This goal seemed to affect the Swifts and five minutes later Bartestree took the lead when indecision cost Swifts dear, to let the striker in to score. Though Swifts had the better of the later stages, they could not convert the chances created. This was a very pleasing performance by the Swifts which we hope will be taken into their next game.

Sun Nov 25 - League Match 7
Woofferton - 5
Ledbury Swifts - 1
(Crichard)
Swifts travelled to play third in the table Woofferton, but while there was a much improved performance, once again they were punished for their mistakes. Woofferton took the lead as early as the third minute when a misplaced pass fell to the striker and he hit an unstoppable shot past Reynolds in the Swifts goal. Swifts were trying hard to play some good attacking football but the final pass or wrong choice let them down outside the box. Midway through the half, Wooferton doubled their lead when a defensive error led to an easy tap in. Five minutes later it was 3-0 when once again when Swifts were punished for slack defending. Swifts then got themselves back into the game with the goal of the game when a quick break down the left from Luke Quinn who rolled the ball inside for Sam Crichard to hit a superb shot into the top corner from 25 yards. In the next attack it should have been 3-2 when a Crichard long throw fell to Sam Topham but somehow with only the keeper to beat, blasted the ball over the bar. The second half was very evenly contested with both sides playing good attacking football. Swifts central defenders Joe Markiewiez and Luke Perry held the Wooferton attack at bay. The next goal was going to be important and unfortunately with 10 minutes to go, the Wooferton striker was given much time and space to make it 4-1. Wooferton went on to add another goal and finish with a rather flattering score line.

Sun Nov 18 - Llewellyn Heating Cup Round 1
Kington Town - 5
Ledbury Swifts - 0
After three weeks without any action, Swifts travelled to a very snowy Kington to play in the first round of the Llewellyn Cup. Though conditions were very poor Kington got off to a flying start when they opened the scoring in only the second minute. Swifts lack of action clearly showed and were second best all over the field. Then, on 10 minutes, Kington doubled their lead when the striker rose unchallenged from a corner to head home. Swifts rarely got any attacks going and were 3-0 down on 25 minutes when a carbon copy of the second goal arose. Half time couldn t come soon enough for Swifts as they looked very poor. Conditions were getting worse by the start of the second half, but it didn t stop Kington scoring 2 quick goals to go 5-0 up. Hard as Swifts tried they were very short of ideas against a determined Kington outfit. Though there were no more goals in the game that was down to the conditions and poor finishing and a fine display by Dave Reynolds, Swifts goalkeeper.

Sun Oct 28 - League Match 6
Ledbury Swifts - 2 (Bubb-Sacklyn, Edwards)
Hereford Lads Club - 5
A mixture of Swifts not capitalising on their chances and mistakes at the back being punished cost Swifts at least a point from this fixture. Lads Club started the game well with some good attacking moves and with two pacey wingmen that caused Swifts defence early problems. Swifts were giving the ball away far too easily which created more pressure on the home side. Swifts did come into the game more and with some good approach play chances fell to Topham who hit his drive straight at the keeper. Two chances for Critchard one went just wide of the far post and Bubb-Sacklyn was foiled twice by the Lads Club keeper. Then on 25 minutes the visitors took the lead when a break from the left side of the box wasn t dealt with and the striker placed his shot just inside the post. Just before the break Lads Club scored two quick goals, firstly from a corner hesitancy from four Swifts players in clearing the ball let the striker in to tap home. Then a hopeful ball into the box should have been easily dealt with but again was punished with the ball ending up in the net. Swifts should have scored right from the kick off when in a goalmouth scramble, three players failed to convert their chance. Then from a good move down the left, Quinn's cross was headed home for a deserving goal from Bubb-Sacklyn. Swifts come back was short lived when once again a hopeful ball into the box slipped under the defenders foot and the striker lobbed Reynolds with ease. It wasn t long before it was 5-1 when a cross from the right found the striker all alone to fire home. Swifts continued to put some good moves together and reduced arrears when Edwards found space to hit a crisp drive into the net, to make the final score 2-5.

Sun Oct 14 - League Match 5
Ledbury Swifts - 4 (Lammas, Crichard 2, Davis)
Kington Town Colts - 0
Swifts entertained Kington Colts at the Ross Road and after a solid all round team display recorded their first league win of the season. Games between the two sides are always close affairs and this proved to be the case in the first half, as both teams efforts to make a break through were cancelled out with some good defensive play. Swifts however did create the better chances thanks to the play of Luke Quinn and Chris Savidge, when efforts from Alex Edwards, Sam Crichard, Olly Lammas, and Richard Clayton were not quite good enough the beat the Kington keeper. A special mention should go to Swifts defenders Ian Davies, Luke Perry, Joe Markiewiez and Clayton, for a solid first half. Swifts got off to a good start in the second half when after only five minutes they took the lead when Olly Lammas reacted first to a loose ball in the box, to beat the keeper with a good strike into the top corner. This goal sparked Kington who made a good passage of play as they pressed for an equaliser, but a mixture of poor finishing and good defending produced nothing. After weathering the storm, Swifts then sealed the game with two quick goals. Firstly, Crichard pounced on a loose ball on the edge of the box to curl it into the top corner. Then an Edwards cross from the left caused panic in the Kington defence and the ball fell to Adam Davis, who beat the keeper with ease. Kington now looked a tired and well beaten side as both sides just played out the game, but with five minutes left, another cross from the left found Crichard who chested in down and volleyed home past the helpless keeper.

Sun Oct 07 - League Match 4
Ledbury Swifts - 2 (Clayton, Crichard (pen))
Kington Town - 8
Swifts entertained title-favourites Kington and as the score-line shows come out of the encounter second best. It was a day to forget for the Swifts when firstly their captain pulled out with a toe injury, then in the warm-up, Chris Savidge pulled a thigh muscle, and though he started, was replaced after only five minutes. Things got worse for Swifts when Ian Davies picked up a knee injury and had to be substituted. On ten minutes, Kington took the lead when a through ball found the striker and despite a good save from Reynolds, he followed up to tap home. Swifts however were putting some good attacking moves together with Olly Lammas and Jamie Bubb-Sacklyn causing the Kington defence problems. Swifts them suffered a big blow when centre half Joe Markiewicz had to leave the field with an ankle injury. Savidge returned to make up the eleven. Kington then took advantage of the situation with two quick goals to go 3-0 up. Swifts still at times played some good attacking football and were rewarded when Bubb-Sacklyn's perseverance led to Richard Clayton scoring from close range. At half-time, Chris Bodgers knee injury was too much to carry on, so Markiewicz tried bravely to carry on. But with Kington's pace and Swifts wounded soldiers, there was only one outcome and Kington scored goals at regular intervals to pile on the misery to go 7-1 up. Swifts endurances were rewarded when Sam Crichard's run ended with him being brought down in the box, he dusted himself off to take the penalty and score. Then in the last minute, Kington made it 8-2.

Sun Sep 30 - League Match 3
FC Phoenix - 4
Ledbury Swifts - 2
(Powell, Lammas)
Swifts lost this encounter after a poor first-half display, which saw them 3-0 down by half-time. Phoenix started the game very strongly with some good attacking play, mainly down the left side, Swifts defence were under a lot of pressure, and were let off with some poor shooting from the Phoenix strikers. Swifts midfielders Chris Savidge and Jamie Bubb-Sacklyn were competing well, but no clear cut chances could be created. Then midway through the half, Phoenix took a deserved lead. It was soon 2-0 when once again Swifts lost possession and a quick break led to the striker finding the bottom corner. Phoenix was then reduced to 10 men. After a hard but fair challenge from Savidge, the Phoenix player reacted by head butting Savidge so the referee had no alternative but to show him a red card. Swifts began to show a bit more promise now, but right on half time once again, sloppy defending was punished with a third goal. Swifts had the perfect start to the second half when in their first attack, Roy Powell fired home after a goal mouth scramble. Swifts were all out for another goal now and it was Phoenix defence that was under pressure. Then in a rare breakaway, Phoenix undid the Swifts rear guard to go 4-1 up. Swifts were unlucky on several occasions not to score, with 2 headers from Bubb-Sacklyn just going over, another header from Joe Markiewiez going past the post, a finger-tip save from a Powell drive and a good effort from Olly Lammas. Their efforts paid off when 10 minutes from time, Lammas pounced on a loose ball to hit a great shot into the top corner. But try as they might, Swifts couldn’t break down the Phoenix defence again.

Sun Sep 23 - HFA Youth Cup Round 1
Ledbury Swifts - 6 (Lammas 3, Savidge 2, Quinn)
Weston-under-Penyard - 1
Swifts stormed their way through to the 2nd round of the HFA Youth Cup with a very powerful performance. After Swifts were denied a win in the league match the previous week against Weston, they were determined to make sure in this cup tie, when they put on a tremendous first half display. Swifts were on top right from the start with the same good crisp passing, midfielders Adam Davis and Chris Savidge were dominant and well supported by Sam Crichard and Luke Quinn. Though Swifts were on top, Weston should have taken the lead when a through ball caught the Swifts defence out but the striker shot wide with only Reynolds to beat in the Swifts goal. But it wasn’t long before Swifts efforts paid off when Olly Lammas opened the scoring after good work from Jamie Bubb-Sacklyn. Swifts then forced a number of corners and from one took a 2-0 lead when Chris Savidge pounced on a loose ball to fire into the roof of the net. It was all Swifts now with Crichard and Bubb-Sacklyn causing all sorts of problems for the Weston defence and it was Lammas who prospered when he completed his hat trick with a quick double to make it 4-0. A lot of praise should go to Swifts defenders Luke Perry, Alex Edwards, Richard Clayton and Ian Davies who superbly kept Weston attacks at bay. The second half was only 5 minutes old when Swifts added another goal to make it 5-0 when Luke Quinn had a simple tap in. Weston to their credit kept plugging away and were rewarded with a well-taken goal to make it 5-1. Bit it was Swifts who wrapped the game up with the goal of the game from the player of the game Chris Savidge who picked up a poor clearance and from 25 yards hit a great shot just under the bar.

Sun Sep 16 - League Match 2
Ledbury Swifts - 0
Weston-under-Penyard - 0
Swifts can count themselves very unfortunate not to have recorded their first league win of the season when two controversial offside decisions cost them dear. On a hard and bumpy surface with a strong wind, both sides did well in trying to play some good football. Swifts were having a lot of the play but were unable to put the final ball in the right place. On the few occasions Weston’s attack showed promise they were easily dealt with by the Swifts defence. Swifts then had a good passage of play when firstly Sam Crichard fired just wide, then Sam Topham had a fierce drive tipped over by the keeper. Adam Davis was then denied by another point blank save from the keeper. Then on 25 minutes, Swifts thought they took the lead when a Weston defender could only head the ball towards his own goal and Olly Lammas pounced to put the ball in the net, only for the visiting linesman to have raised the flag. Astonishingly, the referee upheld the decision. The second half was a carbon copy of the first, with Swifts holding the upper hand and all Weston could force were a couple of corners, which were easily dealt with. Though Swifts were on top chances were very few, the best of which fell to Ben Fearnley when a poor goal kick went straight to him, with the goal gaping he wanted too much time and the defender got back to clear. With time almost up, Swift’s put together one last attack and in the ensuing scramble, the ball fell to Richard Clayton who turned and slotted the ball inside the post. Once again the linesman had his flag raised, even though there were two defenders still lying on the goal line, the referee ruled the goal out.

Sun Sep 09 - League Match 1
Credenhill - 7
Ledbury Swifts - 2
(Davis, Bodger)
Swifts started the new season with a trip to defending champions Credenhill, and after a poor pre-season, this game proved to be too much for the Swifts players. Credenhill started the game well causing a lot of problems to the Swifts defence with the pace of their attack. But poor finishing and a few good saves from Dave Reynolds kept the score line blank. Swifts rarely got any attacks going as they gave the ball away too easily. Credenhill continued to dominate but Swifts defence worked hard to keep them out. All their efforts were undone on 22 minutes when Credenhill were awarded a dubious penalty, which the player gave Reynolds no chance with. It was soon 2-0 when another quick attack caught Swifts napping and the striker fired past Reynolds. Swifts then managed to put a good passage of play together when firstly Crichard got round the back, but his cross missed everyone. Then from a free kick, Savidge’s header went just past the post, so it remained 2-0 at half time. Swifts started the second half very poorly and within ten minutes found themselves 5-0 down. Swifts still tried to get forward and were rewarded with the goal of the game when Adam Davis hit a great shot from 25 yards, which gave the keeper no chance. But once again Swifts were punished for their mistakes when Credenhill added two more goals to go 7-1 up. Swifts however had the last say when a cross from the right fell to Chris Bodger who tapped home, to make it 7-2.
